Governor Speech

In line with the Central Bank of Egypt’s strategy to move towards a cash-less community, and with the rapid growth of FinTech applications and financial inclusion, the Computing Incident Response Team for Financial Sector (EG-FinCIRT) was established with the aspiration of reducing and preventing cybercrimes, along with administering the defense against any potential cyber-attacks, and support the coordinated response for incidents in a timely manner.

The team’s functions represent a stride towards the pursuit of financial stability, particularly in view of the global outlook of intensified reliance on online banking services in the future, the surging need for secured cyberspace for all businesses especially the SMEs, and the broad range of innovative digital solutions that require continuous support and uninterrupted security precautions.

The EG-FinCIRT launch is a key pillar in the framework for implementing the strategy of the Central Bank to reduce different risks associated with the banking systems, paving the road for investment inflows into the financial sector in Egypt.

In this regard, the Central bank of Egypt is keenly fostering the vibrant fintech ecosystem in Egypt, while encouraging financial institutions to proactively spread cyber awareness among citizens, as a part of the risk mitigation efforts to enhance cybersecurity status in Egypt. The CBE is playing a key role in the financial sector’s digital transformation, which comes in parallel with the national financial inclusion initiative.
